FOUNDATION PRESS RELEASE

Telamon Insurance and Financial Network honored the achievement of three Telamon Insurance and Financial Network Charitable Foundation Scholars at our second annual Awards Luncheon held at the Museum of Science in Boston, MA.  The keynote speaker was George Deren CEO of ValGuard Security, a leader in crisis management software for the education sector.

NEWTON, Mass., May 28, 2009 -  Michael Susco wanted to up the ante in his commitment to the special-needs education community that he has served for 20 years.  His company, Telamon Insurance & Financial Network, has carved out a niche providing insurance for not-for-profit private schools in New England.  In May, Telamon Insurance & Financial Network Charitable Foundation awarded its scholarships to special education and charter school teachers.  The three  individual recipients may use the $2,000 scholarships in any way that advances their educational goals.

“The money can be used for books, travel, tuition, or compensation for time off,” states Susco.  “It’s unusual to have unrestricted grants in non-profits.  Basically, we just wanted to make it possible for these teachers to pursue studies that allow them to further their education in the field of special education.  People who go into these specialized teaching fields are motivated more by personal commitment than economic advancement, and frequently the money just isn’t there.”

Telamon, a word that means “support,” goes far beyond simply providing insurance for their clients.  “We want them to look at us the way they would look at their lawyer, their accountant, their banker.  We’re there to help them be successful. We’re there to help them protect their assets.  And in the case of education, we wanted to help schools protect their most valuable assets – their teachers.”

The three finalists are Carolyn Clicklich from Prospect Hill Academy Charter School (Somerville, MA), Jenna Grady from Crossroads School for Children (Natick, MA), and Nancy Howard from Willie Ross School for the Deaf (Longmeadow, MA).  Their plans involve a continuing course of study, either for certifications, further technical skills, or advanced degrees.

Telamon Insurance & Financial Network Charitable Foundation is administered by the trustees Michael Susco, Gregory Susco, Michael Vann, Nicholas A.R. Hofer, Henry W. Clark, Esq., Thomas Reardon and Meg Blackwell.  Its main goal is to provide scholarships to individuals who are presently teaching in licensed approved not-for-profit private special education schools and charter schools or working in a licensed human services corporation.

Applications for 2010 will be accepted from January 2009 through October.
